Hengjane
Beleef geschiedenis en natuur in Hengjane, een voormalige bergboerderij met wortels die teruggaan tot de 17e eeuw. Van illegale stokerijen tot spectaculaire rotsformaties, deze toeristische attractie heeft voor ieder wat wils.
Hengjane is een historische bergboerderij die dateert uit de 17e eeuw, toen het als zomerweide werd gebruikt.
Ola Folkeson uit Setesdal was de eerste die land ontgon in Hengjane. Hij deed dit zonder vergunning en werd pachtboer onder Bratteli. Zijn zoon Tore Olsson nam vervolgens de boerderij over, waarna Ane Olsdatter en haar man Andreas Torkelson het overnamen.
In 1912 kochten de zussen Sikke Gurina Andreasdatter en Thea Olava Andreasdatter Hengjane van Bratteli met geld van een familielid in Amerika, waardoor het een apart eigendom werd.
Heinrich Friedrich Kristian Mohr, ook wel bekend als de Hengjane-Duitser, arriveerde in 1914 in Hengjane. Toen de Eerste Wereldoorlog uitbrak, koos Mohr ervoor om niet naar Duitsland terug te keren. Mohr hoorde over Sikke, die alleen in Hengjane woonde, en werd hartelijk ontvangen toen hij de Hengjajuvet beklom om haar te bezoeken.
Mohr married Sikke in a civil ceremony in 1917, and they had a child in 1918 who died shortly after birth. Mohr was a hard worker and engaged in various activities, such as logging, road construction, building a cable car down to the sea, and a pier. He also produced moonshine, which he sold in Stavanger and Jørpeland. Mohr's distillery was hidden at the edge of the cliff overlooking Lysefjorden.
The sheriff made several attempts to stop Mohr's illegal production of alcohol. Finally, in 1921, he succeeded. The sheriff paid a visit to the farm dressed in plain clothes and requested Sikke to serve him a drink. When she obliged and served him alcohol, he revealed his true identity and compelled her to disclose the location of the distillery, allowing him to seize the distilling equipment.
Mohr ging vissen om in zijn levensonderhoud te voorzien, maar werd later gearresteerd voor diefstal en poging tot moord op een visser van wie hij een boot kocht. In 1930 werd Mohr ontoerekeningsvatbaar verklaard en veroordeeld tot negen jaar gevangenisstraf, waarna hij in 1932 naar Duitsland werd teruggestuurd. Sikke woonde van 1922 tot haar dood in 1934 alleen in Hengjane.
Today, Hengjane is a popular tourist attraction in Lysefjorden, attracting tourists with Hengjanenibbå and Hengjanefossen, also known as "Whisky Falls." The spectacular Hengjanenibbå mountain formation provides stunning views of Lysefjorden, while the walls of Neverdalsfjellet and Hengjanenibbå are great for observing birds of prey such as the peregrine falcon and the golden eagle.
