Songesand

Songesand is a small village situated in the middle of Lysefjorden, with its own ferry quay, and mountain road leading to Ã…rdal, constructed in 1994.

The quay area houses the remnants of Pilt-Olas nail factory, and a plot of land named “Litle Danmark,” which was used to unload ballast soil from ships arriving from Denmark. The name Songesand is derived from the Songa river, meaning “to carry sand with it.”

The region is home to numerous small farms, including Songesand, Hatleskog, Moen, Sørevoll, Helmikstøl, and Kåsen. Positioned at the top, Kåsen offers breathtaking views of Flørli on the opposite side of the fjord. Sunnmork, a farm located roughly 500 meters above sea level, has always been closely associated with mountain farming and fishing. Sunnmork Tourist Lodge opened in the summer of 2023.
