Eiane is a village and valley located in Ryfylke, with a fascinating history. Eidedalen, situated between Eiane and Fossmark, features rocky slopes with birch forests and various important natural habitats. The river running through the valley ultimately flows into Lysefjorden, linking these significant areas. During springtime, visitors may observe black grouse in the valley, while hares thrive in warm regions. Deer are also known to migrate towards Fossmark.

Nedre Eiane was formerly an active quarry from 1897 to 1952, employing approximately 50 people at its height and attracting significant investments. The granite produced was utilized in constructing structures such as Stavanger Hospital, Haugesund City Hall, and a new pier in the Netherlands. During World War I and World War II, production remained relatively high, but the quarry was ultimately shuttered due to challenging post-war conditions. Granite can still be seen in the Eiane mountains today.

At Øvre Eiane we still find the old school building and teacher’s residence. At Eiavatne Lake lays Vassbotn, a farm with a mill that locals visited to grind their grain. Skrøyla serves as a popular starting point for summer and winter hikes and offers ample parking. From this spot, visitors can observe Preikestolen on the other side of the fjord.

After the exit to Skrøylå, the road runs past Solbergknuten along a spectacular stretch of the mountain before ending at Fossmark. There has likely been farming in this area since the Middle Ages. Fossmark was the home of Martin Fossmark, an outstanding painter, rosemaling artist, and woodcarver.
