The Lysefjord is located in Rogaland county, Fjord Norway, and home to the famous Preikestolen and Kjerag rock formations. The 42-kilometer-long fjord was originally a river valley, created by streams and rivers that eroded through an old, plain landscape. Through a series of ice ages, this valley was transformed into its current deep U-shape.<\/span><\/p>\n

By\u00a0<\/span>bus<\/strong>, you can take long distance coaches\u00a0<\/span>Kystbussen<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>from Bergen and Vybuss<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0from Kristiansand \/ Oslo.<\/p>\n

By\u00a0<\/span>train<\/strong>, you can travel \u201cS\u00f8rlandsbanen\u201d from Kristiansand \/ Oslo with\u00a0<\/span>Go Ahead Nordic<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

By car<\/strong>, you can travel to us from Bergen (north) and Kristiansand \/ Oslo (south-west) by driving the\u00a0<\/span>E39<\/strong>. From Hardanger and R\u00f8ldal, the road\u00a0<\/span>13<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>through Ryfylke is the best option. From Setesdal, you can drive the Suleskard mountain road (summer only).<\/p>\n

From Stavanger<\/strong><\/p>\n

Take\u00a0<\/span>road 13<\/strong>, driving the\u00a0<\/span>Ryfylketunnel<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>(world\u2019s longest undersea road tunnel), following signs towards R\u00f8ldal. At the end of the tunnel (Solbakk), you can choose to drive south to J\u00f8rpeland,\u00a0<\/span>Preikestolen<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>and Forsand, or north\/east to Tau and \u00c5rdal, from where you can drive the mountain road to Songesand.<\/p>\n

From Hardanger \/ Ryfylke \/ Hjelmeland<\/strong><\/p>\n

Driving\u00a0<\/span>road 13<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>from the north, take the exit towards\u00a0<\/span>Songesand<\/strong>, just south of \u00c5rdal. The mountain road is narrow and winding, but spectacular. Remember to check the ferry schedules if you want to travel onwards to\u00a0<\/span>Fl\u00f8rli<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>Kjerag<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

From Setesdal \/ Sirdal<\/strong><\/p>\n

When coming from the east, the stunning\u00a0<\/span>Suleskard<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>mountain pass is recommended. It is narrow and winding. Arriving in Sirdal, follow signs to\u00a0<\/span>Lysebotn<\/strong>, leading you over another beautiful mountain pass: Lysevegen<\/a><\/strong>. This is the easiest road to reach\u00a0<\/span>Kjerag<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>by car. Remember to check the ferry schedules if you want to travel onwards.<\/p>\n

J\u00f8rpeland<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is the only town in Ryfylke and is located just 10 minutes from Preikestolen and the Lysefjord. J\u00f8rpeland offers accommodation, restaurants, shopping, and a wide range of outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, kayaking, boating, fishing, golf, disc golf, and more. It is the perfect base camp for day trips to Preikestolen and many other attractions in the region.<\/p>\n

These 3 small settlements at the mouth of the Lysefjord \u2013 each on their own shore \u2013 are connected by a car ferry between Lauvvik and Oanes, and the Lysefjord bridge between Oanes and Forsand. Songesand is scenically located half-way the Lysefjord. It is connected to the outside world by a stunning mountain pass over Lyngsheia. Fl\u00f8rli is popular for its 4444 steps right up the mountain \u2013 the\u00a0<\/span>longest wooden stairway<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>in the world. It is also known for its\u00a0<\/span>hydropower history<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 in the power hall you can visit the exposition and enjoy the summer-open Power Caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Fl\u00f8rli is a\u00a0place to relax. It is also a basecamp\u00a0for great\u00a0<\/span>outdoor adventures, such as kayaking and fishing. Use Fl\u00f8rli as your base for hiking and trail-running in the\u00a0<\/span>Frafjordheiane Landscape Reserve<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

<\/strong>Lysebotn<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the heart of the Lysefjord is the power village Lysebotn, which has supplied electricity to large parts of the country since the 1950s.<\/span><\/p>\n

This small village has only 10 permanent inhabitants, but attracts a lot of tourists and BASE jumpers from all corners of the world during the summer season. It is also the perfect basecamp for hiking\u00a0<\/span>Kjerag<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>and many other day hikes. You can start or end your multi-day hike along the Lysefjord here.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Lysebotn you will find accommodation, caf\u00e9, country store and tourist information. Located at the very end of the fjord, you can take a ferry to Fl\u00f8rli, Songesand, Forsand\/Preikestolen and Lauvvik from here. By car, 27 hairpins take you up to the mountain to the Kjerag Trailhead and the mountain pass to Sirdal.<\/span><\/p>\n
