In 2015, Lonely Planet ranked Preikestolen number one on its list of the world's most scenic overlooks.<\/p>\n<p>But while many visitors come to marvel at the beauty of Preikestolen, few may know about the fascinating geologic history behind its formation. Over 10,000 years ago, at the end of the last ice age, the melting glaciers flooded the river valley, creating the Lysefjord. Captain Hana explained how the cliff looked like the blade of a wood planer and was therefore called \"Hyvlat\u00e5nn\u00e5\" in the local dialect.<\/p>\n<p>Randulff became the first to hike to the top with his friend, Ole Hausken, helped by locals Elling and Guttom from Vatne Farm and Fredrik Bratteli. Preikestolen soon became a popular tourist destination, and in the early 1900s, the Stavanger Hiking Association furnished three rooms at Vatne Farm for guests to stay overnight. Neighboring Torsnes Farm became a 'Tourist Station' in 1925 and was in operation until the 1960s. The association appropriated Vatne Farm in 1946 and opened Preikestolhytta in 1949, a cabin with a capacity of 44 beds.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div><div class=\"et_d4_element et_pb_row et_pb_row_3 et_pb_gutters3  et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode et_block_row\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_d4_element et_pb_column_2_3 et_pb_column et_pb_column_5  et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode et_block_column\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_module et_d4_element et_pb_text et_pb_text_4  et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\"><p>Dans les ann\u00e9es 1960, la construction d&#039;une route jusqu&#039;\u00e0 Preikestolhytta a facilit\u00e9 l&#039;ascension du Preikestolen en une journ\u00e9e. Face \u00e0 l&#039;augmentation du nombre de visiteurs, le besoin d&#039;infrastructures plus adapt\u00e9es s&#039;est fait sentir. En 2008, le nouveau Preikestolen Mountain Lodge a ouvert ses portes, offrant une vue imprenable sur le lac Revsvatnet et les montagnes environnantes.<\/p>\n<p>The Preikestolen Foundation, a non-profit organization representing local municipalities and landowners, manages the trail and ensures visitors' safety and sanitation. While the crack crossing the plateau on top of Preikestolen may concern some visitors, it does not travel all the way through the formation and is not widening.
