LYSEFJORD TOP 10 DAY HIKES

WELCOME TO THE LYSEFJORD

Around the Lysefjord, the different seasons are beautiful, and offer great contrasts. Traditionally, June, July and August are the peak-season months for hiking, and guests from all over the world travel to our region. In autumn, winter and spring, visitor numbers are low. In the western part of the fjord, hiking is possible most time of the year. In the eastern part, however, the weather is harsher. Here, snow accumulates throughout the winter, and takes longer to melt.

Whatever the time of year, weather and trail conditions can change daily. Therefore, check the seasonal conditions when picking a hike, and check the weather forecast before you go out. You should adapt your preparations and the equipment you bring accordingly.

Have a safe hike!

KJERAG: nesatindane & kjeragbolten

Approx. 10.000 years ago, massive glaciers formed the Norwegian fjords and mountains, and in this process the Kjerag boulder was wedged into a mountain crevasse at 1.000 metres above sea level. When at the boulder you have the most amazing views over the 42 km long Lysefjorden.

This hike will take your breath away! If you can only pick 1 hike in the Lysefjord area, this new trail (2022) absolutely competes with Preikestolen. 75% of the route runs close along the fjord. Several hundred meters above sea level, the trail winds along several mountain cliffs and gorges, including Skjerajuvet and Fantahålå – through stunning landscapes past countless panoramic viewpoints. If you pay attention, you will find the cool Fantapytten – Lysefjord’s own “infinity pool”.

SOLLIFJELLET

See Preikestolen from the front! At the southern shore of the Lysefjord, at the end of the narrow, winding and spectacular road from Forsand, lies the hidden gem Sollifjell. Although the hike is relatively short, you are at the heart of the Lysefjord. A somewhat steep climb to the summit makes the views on the Lysefjord and Preikestolen even more worth it.
Temporarily closed by the landowner because too many hikers ignored the rule to keep dogs on a leash.
